The Department of Petroleum Engineering at the University College of Architecture started receiving students wishing to major in petroleum engineering in the academic year 2018-2019 and thus it is considered one of the young departments in Iraqi universities and colleges, but despite the modernity of this department, its ambitions are great to be one of the distinguished petroleum departments at the level of Iraq first, and at the regional level, secondly, in terms of graduating distinguished petroleum engineers who are able to effectively compete in the labor market in all disciplines concerned with the petroleum study (drilling, exploration, stockpiling, and production). The department also aspires to have an important role in implementing and the publication of scientific research, and in the establishment of workshops, seminars, scientific conferences and training courses, because of these activities of great importance in promoting scientific cooperation between the various scientific institutions and companies operating in the oil sector.

 Petroleum engineering in its various fields is one of the most important disciplines at the global level, and the importance of this specialty is increasing in particular in the oil countries, because of its effective role in supporting the national economy in those countries, which in many of them constitutes the cornerstone in building that economy. Iraq is one of the most important countries that enjoys enormous oil wealth, and whose economy is mainly based on those wealth, hence the importance of establishing departments and colleges that are concerned with petroleum specializations, which are concerned with graduating petroleum engineers who are able to contribute to the exploration and production of these wealth and their optimal investment, which is This also contributes to creating distinguished job opportunities and reduces dependence on foreign hands.

  The Department has been established at the College since the establishment of the college and began to receive its students in the academic year 2018-2019 with distinction and in a city rich in its oil resources, and set one of its most important goals to graduate qualified petroleum engineers and open the way for students of Iraq in general and Maysan and neighboring provinces in particular To study in this section instead of traveling to distant places or outside the country, which contributes to saving great financial burden on the student and providing large quantities of foreign exchange that would have been spent outside the country.
